Colors in embroidery files

These files will be attached when you purshase any design on Ateljé Kreativ:

  • ak0000.edr
  • ak0000.txt
  • ak0000-color.jpg

The ak0000.edr file

Use this file if you have installed Embird. This file carries the information of the colours in the embroidery. I choose colours only on how the looks on the screen, the exact thread number is added later. If you look in the catalogue, when a design is active, you may not see the exact number. If I choose the thread colour instead the colour on the screen may be inaccurate. Therefore it's a bit of compromise I have to do. Place the .edr file in the same folder as the embroidery file. From now on Embird will take care of the .edr file. It will change and move when you change and move the embroidery file.

The ak0000.txt file

This file contains the information on where you downloaded the file and who did the embroidery. Also it tells you what you are allowed to do with the embroidery file. Finally you have a list of the actual threads I used when I embroidered it. Some times you find instructions at the bottom. Always save this file along with the embroidery file.

The ak0000-color.jpg file

This file is a 3D-dimentional image, made in Embird, of the embroidery. On the left side you see the colours that I made it in. If you only need to know what type of colour to use this is enough but if you need the exact colour please read the .txt file.

Why do I get so strange colours sometimes?

If you are using Embird I urge you to save the .edr file in the same folder as the embroidery file. Then the right colours will show up. If you have disabled the support for edr, rgb and txt you need to change that. Go Options, when you are in Manager, and tick the row that says Support Pallet files.

If you are using other software than Embird you can get strange colours. Embroidery files in .hus, .pcs and .pes can look like this.

You need to read the .txt file for accurate colours, or use the -color.jpg file.

When the file is saved the format decides which color should be used. This has nothing to do which digitizing software you are using. Some format, like .vip, can add more information in the file. Therefore you often see more accurate colors in this file. Pcs format can also save this information but it can cause trouble at the sewing machine, sometimes even don't work, so I don't choose this facility.

Some format has only a few colors and some has several. This is why you can get different colors if you download one file in several formats.

Here you see the colors that Husqvarna, Pfaff and Brother uses. When the file is saved it is these colors that you will be seeing on the sewing machine.
